Today Marks Eight Years Since Richie's Death
Richie's Spirit Foundation Executive Director, Jordan Herskowitz, reflects on the passing of his younger brother, Richie, on the eighth anniversary of his death.
It's a day that is always dreaded -- one of sadness and wonders of what could have been. Richie died at 17 years old, just seven months shy of his high school graduation.
But I can't let these emotions linger. Richie's life has lived on long after he passed through the work of Richie's Spirit Foundation. Named in his memory, we work to give people around the country a second chance at life by promoting organ donation. Our grants and scholarships have tripled since inception and our programs have received national attention.
Last night, we hosted our second annual Rockin' Out For Richie event at the Broadway Comedy Club in New York City. The evening was a perfect way to honor the wonderful life Richie led through comedy and music. Our featured performers, Cadence, closed out the show by singing Richie's favorite song: 100 Years by Five for Fighting. Click here to check out a clip from the performance.
As we remember Richie today, thank you for helping to keep his memory alive eight years after his death. Each of you plays an integral part in passing the spirit. Together, we can keep Richie's memory alive for years to come.
Sincerely,
Jordan Herskowitz
