A track and field college athlete, Heather started having shortness of breath in her 20s and six years ago received her life-saving double-lung transplant in 2016. Two years ago, Heather welcomed a baby boy through surrogacy.

After discovering heart disease ran in his family, Tyshon had a two-year battle with congestive heart disease and received his life-saving heart transplant in 2016. Tyshon will be joined at the Games with his donor’s daughter and husband.

Diagnosed with kidney failure at age 17, Carol received a new kidney from her friend after two decades of fatigue and illness. She started swimming to combat post transplant weight gain and was given the nickname “Fishie” by fellow Team USA swimmers.

Amy is a two-time kidney transplant recipient. Inspired by her gifts of life, Amy will receive her nursing degree next year and plans to help transplant patients.

Born with small dysplastic kidneys, Lauren is a three-time kidney transplant recipient. Growing up, Lauren was bullied for being overweight and puffy due to transplant medication and has found a safe, inspiring space in participating at the Games.

Zachary has received two kidney transplants, one from each of his parents. His transplants have activated his desire to help promote recipients, donors, donor families and the countless medical professionals who make the gift of life happen.

In 2016, Phelicia received a kidney from her cousin, Dean. Her transplant has inspired her to be an ambassador for the United Network for Organ Sharing and promote kidney screenings through the National Kidney Foundation.
