2011 College Scholarship Winners Announced
Benjamin Levy of California won first place in the third annual Richie's Spirit College
Scholarship Signficiant Challenge Essay Contest. Levy described the challenge of growing
up with a speech defect and how persistence and fortitude in overcoming the
communication barrier allowed him to build confidence and direction in life. Lara
Grabois of New Jersey won honorable mention.

St. Louis Hosts First Annual Basketball Tournament
St. Louis, Missouri was the site of the first annual "Hoopin' It Up For Richie" 3-on-3
Basketball Tournament. Open to middle school students in the St. Louis area, the
tournament was a fun-filled afternoon that raised $2,000 for the Foundation.
Student Writes About Richie in College Essay
Jodie Guller of St. Louis wrote about her friendship with Richie and signing-up to
become an organ donor for her college admissions essay. Jodie wrote she “will always
aspire to have [Richie’s] fighting spirit and phenomenal ability to keep a smile on his
